FEAST OF LITTLE ITALY BIG ON CULTURE

JUPITER, FL (SEPTEMBER 18, 2011) – You can’t help but feel the passion when you ask Feast of Little Italy Co Founder Jerry Somma what it represents, “it’s not just about a street in New York, Boston, Chicago or other cities, it’s about what that neighborhood represents, the place where our ancestors first migrated, stayed together, worked, shopped, loved, raised their children and began their journey to obtain the American Dream,” Somma explains. “Italian culture represents and reflects the foundation of our grandparents and parents as they brought these values with them to this country: their love of family, a stellar work ethic and the love of life itself,” Somma continues.

Family, friends, food, music, art, and so many traditions can all be found in this year’s Feast of Little Italy. Italian traditions will be shared through the “live” cooking demos and wine tastings throughout the three day Festival. This year’s Sorrento Cheese La Cucina Italiana Cooking Stage will showcase four accomplished Chefs including the nationally televised, Chef Marco, from Buffalo, NY. The Banfi Toscana Wine Tastings will be educational, entertaining and will be offering a sample of Italy’s best!

With this year’s newest feature the Alla Prima Art Pavilion, guests of all ages can participate in art demo classes and enjoy the cultural contributions to the art world that have been made by many great Italian artists. Local artist, Jennifer Chaparro, will be street painting at the Feast; she will begin her piece on Friday and will finish on Sunday with a large ten foot by eight foot mural that will pay tribute to one of the masterpieces in the Italian art world.

The Feast continues to bring national entertainment for festival-goers enjoyment, this year Lou Christie will headline singing his number one hits, “I'm Gonna Make You Mine”, “Gypsy Cried”, “Lightning Strikes” just to name a few. The party gets going with the upbeat act of Tre Bella, Tommy Mara The Pavarotti of Doo Wop, Lou Galterio and so many more.

Looking for a fun family sport? Well then come on over and join the DiSalvos Tratorria Bocce Pavilion. Bocce is a sport for everyone, young or old; it creates great family bonding, filled with fun outdoor time that can be played right in your backyard.

Once you work up an appetite there will be food vendors lined up as far the eye can see, serving up some of your favorite dishes just like Grandma used to make. Festival goers can stroll through the streets and enjoy other vendors showcasing jewelry, art, clothing, Italian novelties and cookware. Expanding in size this year; the Feast will also include an expanded children’s festival ride area. With so much to choose from and do, the fun filled weekend will surely have something for all ages.

The Feast of Little Italy has been a proud supporter of Little Smiles which is the Official Charity of the festival along with the Daily Bread Food Bank of Palm Beach County. Last year with the support of Sorrento Cheese, the food bank received over 6 tons of cheese to be distributed out to the food banks. Sorrento Cheese has already committed to continue their support this year. An exciting new program is about to get under way, the Feast along with Bank Atlantic will be kicking off a toy drive at all the Bank Atlantic locations in Palm Beach County. You can stop by your local branch and drop off an unwrapped toy that will be going to a local child in one of our hospitals, hospices and shelters.
